Our History
Founded in 1888 as a Custom House Brokerage, Schmidt Pritchard & Co., Inc. has built a legacy rooted in integrity, expertise, and personal service. For more than a century, the company has helped importers navigate the complexities of international trade with accuracy and confidence. In 1971, Thomas and Barbara Garibaldi purchased the firm and expanded its Chicago operations into a highly respected customs brokerage serving clients across the United States. Over the next five decades, they earned the trust of companies ranging from well-known brands such as Crate & Barrel, Weber Grill, and Tablecraft to importers of all sizes nationwide. Following Thomas’s passing in 2024, Schmidt Pritchard remains family-led under the continued guidance of Barbara, alongside daughters Lori Jo and Cindy, their families, and granddaughter Tommy Jean—reflecting a multi-generational commitment to service, accountability, and long-term client relationships.

Building on its strong customs brokerage foundation, Schmidt Pritchard expanded its capabilities with the launch of SP Shipping, the firm’s freight forwarding division, led by Cindy and Bill Helms.
